Happy Birthday to Me!
It is a lovely day here in Montana. The sun is shining, the wheat should be able to be cut, and I"ve already had birthday greetings from Rick, Mom, Delaney, and Garrett. My new boombox is out of the box and the radio stations have been programmed. The kids got an Italian Charm bracelet with UM Griz and Diet Coke on it...so I"m now ready to gather more charms. This evening, Delaney and I will go to Pirates of the Carribean...I wish the rest of us could go too.

Funky means....
Let’s get the allergy part out of the way. Are you allergic to any fibers?I'm not allergic to fibers, but I am sensitive to floral (and other sweet or heavy) smells.
Do you prefer any fibers over others? There are so many fabulous fibers available...but I can't see regular worsted weight acrylic as a favorite for funky...then again, I could be wrong!
Thinking back to Scout’s post about what funky means to you, post an image of something that you think is funky! I see funky as a unique construction, way cool yarn, OR a combination of the two. For the construction, that could be the mobius scarf or the one from Knitty ( http://knitty.com/archive.html ) or for the Yarn, this is so cool (the so called scarf and his dish clothes! http://criminyjickets.blogspot.com/ )
Would you prefer funky yarn or a funky pattern? Which ever works best for my partner!
What are your favorite colors? I love jewel tones...ruby, sapphire blue, emerald greens, purples, even turquoise!
What is your favorite piece of art? Starry, starry night
What colors would you never have up close to your pretty face? Orange or yellow...I like blue tones of red though!
Would you prefer an actual scarf or a cowl? scarf...or something not tight...it is sort of a confined space problem of mine
When you wear a scarf do you prefer a wider/shorter scarf or a thin/long scarf? Long/Thin lol...although I"m only 5'3" so perhaps thin/medium??!
What is the climate like where you live? I'm in Montana...scarves are a part of life!
Would you prefer a functional scarf (to keep you warm) or one just to funk-up your wardrobe? Which ever works best for my partner...I found my new classroom is COLD all winter long, so I could do either!
What else would you like your partner to know about you? I teach high school math, but I also help the students who are learning to knit...that usually happens in the last 20 minutes of class time. If my partner needs more info, I would LOVE to help out!

Some Pictures of the Fair
Here are some pics of Garrett and Delaney with their steers. This was at the 4 County Marias Fair in Shelby, MT 2006. Garrett's steer won the carcass...which is the second year in a row that has happened for Garrett. This was Delaney's first year in steer, but she did quite well as her animal was 12th out of 60 animals.

August Knitting Goal
I plan on finishing a sweater I started over 8 years ago. It was begun for my daughter, but now it will be for my best friends little girl. The sweater is knit from the top down (or I would have lost ALL the parts in those years), but it will need some changes. I only had a sleeve and a neckline left to do...but now I only have a small ball of yarn that I can find. My solution will be to unravel the finished sleeve to a short sleeve length, then I will use that yarn to do a matching short sleeve, and the neckline. Dang, now that it is in writing, it sure does look official!
Pictures will be coming!

Wanna See My Knitting?
I have been busy with the Summer of Stash...and here were the Shelby fair results! First there is the Irish Scarf KAL. Then there was the poncho I made for Carly. Next there was the Felted Lopi Bag. I will take this to the State Fair...I bet it will have a better placing there as they will know more what they are looking for. Then there are the mittens,(adult was given blue, the childrens were given a red...in the larger fair there are actually 2 sections for mittens, but there is only one section here in Shelby)dish cloth, and pot holder. Finally there is a rolled brim hat, socks, and key hole scarf. Whew, there is even more knitting which didn't go to the fair, but that is for another post!

I've been gifted!
Mom called from Michael's today...it seems there is a sale on yarn, some of it being up to 80% off. I explained my dilemma...I am on a yarn diet until Labor Day. I can not purchase yarn except to finish a project. (I did purchase 3 skeins yesterday, but it was to finish a prayer shawl. I should have purchased even more!)
Well, there was a suede yarn at $1 per skein...in a color which was my MIL's shade...so Mom purchased all 17 skeins for me. She decided this was a gift to Betty from the two of us. LOL...I also heard she was getting other colors also, as I told her what she picked for me was my birthday present. As my birthday is coming up, that isn't too bad a deal for either of us!

New KAL - Knucks!
What shall I have on my knuckles? CJI Hawk? Dob Arah? Back Off? Or perhaps one of each? Yeppers, this will be fun! Here is the pattern for theKnuck!
I'm gathering my materials to head off into the camper with me so that I can work on my first pair while I'm camped at the county fair with my family. The kids have animals in 4H so we get to go live by the barns in order to take care of their steers. Now I have something fun and portable to take with me!
I have a pair of mittens I am entering in the fair, but those were knit from the cuff up...I've never done gloves. These will even feel as if I am knitting in reverse. I can hardly wait!

Fair KnitALong helps with SOS
My Discrete Mathematics class will be starting next week, and I just found out which books I will need. Wouldnt' you know it, the main book for the class is out of print, but I was able to find one through Amazon's used booksellers. Now I can breathe more easily!
I joined a Fair KnitALong so I will be working on getting my items ready for the Marias Fair and/or The Montana State Fair. I finished my motorcycle sock, but it will have to suffer from SSS until I can get more items done for the fair. It looks as if I am back to knitting on the Irish Hiker Scarf...oh it is pretty!

From Wedding Cakes to Steer Show
Yesterday was quite busy. DD was showing her brother's steer in a feeder show, and then I was having to come back to get a wedding cake delivered. I'm posting the pics of the show, and hopefully I will be able to get a pic of the cake as I left the camera with my hubby to take pics while I was delivering.
My dd did well for her first time showing!

Pirate time!
It's summer...and I get to be a pirate!

My pirate name is:
Dread Pirate Vane
Like the famous Dread Pirate Roberts, you have a keen head for how to make a profit. You tend to blend into the background occaisionally, but that's okay, because it's much easier to sneak up on people and disembowel them that way. Arr!
